DATA & API

Every dataset.
Public. Downloadable.

The audited catalog and geographic boundaries are public downloads — anyone can verify our published claims. The full 14,062-building master and per-building forensic detail sit behind separate access paths: institutional research access by request, and paid reports for per-building deep dives.

PUBLIC DOWNLOADS

Four files matching the public site surfaces.

The downloads below mirror what's already rendered on the public pages (catalog, grades, map). No registration. No rate limit. Cite and reuse them freely.

What's public vs. what's paid. These downloads contain the curated catalog of buildings we've audited (BBL, address, managing agent, composite score) plus the geography files that power the map. They mirror what's already visible on the site.

The per-building forensic depth — energy compliance, tax-abatement reversion modeling, NYSCEF case lookup, AG REFB offering plan history, sponsor LLC + ACRIS chains, reserve-fund + capital-project ledgers, special-assessment history, TCB 421-a modeling, engineer + counsel pattern analysis, per-case NYSCEF docket pulls, and the analyst pattern flags that interpret the numbers — is what the paid L2 Buyer Brief and L3 Forensic Audit deliver. None of that is in the bulk JSON.

The full 14,062-building master table and the underlying per-BBL forensic dataset are not exposed as bulk downloads. Institutional research access is by request (see below).

Dataset Description Format Size Download
Buildings (catalog summary) Curated catalog of 2,538 CCNYC-tracked buildings with BBL, address, borough, ZIP, managing agent, and composite score. Matches what's surfaced on the /buildings/ and /grades/ pages. JSON ~10 MB buildings.json ↓
ZIP-code metrics Aggregated per-ZIP statistics (building counts, violation density, agent concentration). Matches the /map/ choropleth layers. JSON ~80 KB zip_metrics.json ↓
MODZCTA geometry Modified ZIP Code Tabulation Areas — boundaries used in the /map/ choropleth. GeoJSON ~1.1 MB modzcta.geojson ↓
NTA geometry Neighborhood Tabulation Area boundaries. GeoJSON ~480 KB nta.geojson ↓

RESTRICTED · BY REQUEST OR PAID

Two layers that are not in the bulk download.

Public downloads cover the audited catalog. The two layers below sit behind separate access paths (one institutional, one paid) because each represents work beyond aggregating public records.

Buildings master (14,062 × 92 fields)

Full NYC condo + co-op universe with PLUTO + HPD aggregates + LL11 status + managing-agent crosswalk. Powers internal analysis and the /buildings-master/ table.

Access: Institutional research partners (journalists, academics, legislative staff) on request

Per-building forensic detail

Energy compliance, tax-abatement reversion modeling, NYSCEF lookup, AG REFB amendments, sponsor LLC + ACRIS chains, reserve fund + capital project history, special-assessment series, TCB 421-a modeling, engineer-counsel patterns.

Access: Paid via L2 Buyer Brief / L3 Forensic Audit at /reports/

Researchers, journalists, and legislative staff: email the project with your use case for institutional access to the master table. Buyers, board members, plaintiffs: see L2 and L3 reports.

REPRODUCIBILITY

Every number is one URL from its source.

For methodology + the full inventory of upstream NYC and NY State datasets, see the methodology page. We publish dataset IDs, join keys, and known gotchas so the entire pipeline can be reproduced from scratch.

Want a one-off custom pull (e.g., every building managed by a specific firm with their LL11 cycle status and 421-a vintage)? Email the project. Custom pulls for journalists, legislative staff, and academic researchers are free.

For the editorial deep-dive on how the universe was constructed and the public/paid split, see the blog post "The 14,062-building NYC condo + co-op universe."
